Godolphin Stables Newmarket

The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) announced the appointment of John Ferguson to the Board. He has taken over from Newmarket-based Italian horse trainer Luca Cumani.

Mr Ferguson began his career in racing as a stable hand and spent many years as assistant to the legendary horse trainer, Sir Michael Stoute. He is described “as senior leader in the sport” by BHA Chair Joe Saumarez Smith.

Apart from having trained nearly 300 National Hunt Winners, Mr Ferguson is also a horse breeder and bloodstock agent. Until 2017, he held the position of Chief Executive Officer of the world famous Godolphin Stables owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum of Dubai, based in Newmarket Suffolk.

More recently in 2021 he set up Natalma, a bloodstock investment company which has broodmares in Europe, the United States and Australia. He is also a member of the UK Jockey Club, US Jockey Club and has a Japan Racing Association owners licence.

John Ferguson said “It is now in our hands to shape horseracing into a sustainable and fabulous sport for future generations.”
